A couple of years ago, my partner and I visited Paris. We found the Eurotunnel an enjoyable journey and it's a shame trains don't stop at Ebbsfleet anymore.
I was proud to stand on unofficially British soil in Paris as per the "Flamme de la Liberté." Originally the flame represented primarily as a token of thanks from the United States to France.
But since September 1997 it has become the shrine for Lady Princess Diana. You can leave a padlock which in effect is a lovelock in which most people have the locks engraved.
This reminded me of the excellent work Lady Diana did. This included campaigning about landmines, aids, leprosy, and homelessness. Lady Diana was an incredible and wonderful person.
I cannot think of someone for a while within the UK that has championed causes like these that achieved the attention that they deserve.
However in the past few years, I would say that Kwajo Tweneboa has achieved what Lady Diana did, within social housing. Mr Tweneboa has championed in highlighting issues like Grenfell, serious disrepair such as damp and mould and homelessness.
I am glad Kwajo has created a book and would encourage you all to buy a copy. It's called "Our Country in Crisis: Britain's Housing Emergency and How We Rebuild."
Mr Tweneboa's book will be available to buy from 18th July 2024.
